Honda Sensing is a suite of advanced safety features designed to protect you and your passengers. They utilize radar, sonar, and other advanced technologies to warn you of potential dangers, allowing you to respond and avoid an accident. As your Honda dealership, we want to tell you how some of these systems work. more Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) This system uses radar and a forward-facing camera to monitor the vehicle in front of you. The radar measures the distance from your front bumper to the rear bumper of the vehicle ahead. The distance is then compared to your current speed to determine if there's a danger of collision. If the system determines the distance is closing too fast, for example, the car ahead slows down, you'll receive visual and audio warnings to slow down. Sometimes, a vehicle ahead may brake suddenly, and you're unable to react quickly enough to hit the brakes. In this situation, CMBS automatically applies hard braking to bring your Honda to an almost instant stop. Automatic braking can prevent an accident or reduce the damage caused. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) This feature helps keep you safe by positioning your Honda in the center of its lane. It uses a camera located in front of the rear-view mirror to identify the lane line markings. Once identified, LKAS will automatically warn you if your vehicle drifts toward either lane boundary. You'll hear warning beeps, and a warning icon will appear on your screen to alert you if you're about to leave your present lane and aren't actively steering. If your Honda continues to move toward the lines, LKAS gently tugs your steering wheel to guide the wheels back into the lane. LKAS can't steer your vehicle, so it will provide additional visual and audio alerts to warn you that you need to continue steering. Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) The RDM system helps prevent your vehicle from leaving the road. Like the LKAS system above, it also uses a specialized camera. The RDM camera detects the solid lines that identify road borders. If this system detects you're about to leave the road, it applies steering torque to guide you back into your lane. It also provides audio and visual warnings to alert you to the danger. If your Honda is about to leave the road, RDM applies the brakes to stop your vehicle and prevent an accident. RDM temporarily deactivates if your direction indicator is on or you're actively steering.
