You might have heard of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in modern cars, and Hondas have them as well. Honda driver assistance systems are offered under the Honda Sensing suite in newer models. They use sensors and a front wide-view camera to keep you safe on the road.

Collision Mitigation Braking System

When you drive too close to the car in front of you, the collision mitigation system activates an audible alert. You will also get a flashing “Brake” message on the digital gauge cluster. If you don’t brake, the system will apply light braking to avoid impact. It can also brake automatically to reduce the severity of impact during a collision.

Road Departure Mitigation System

The road departure mitigation system helps you stay within your lane. If you start to go over the solid line on either side, the system will pick that up and activate an alert on the gauge cluster. It will also vibrate the steering wheel to get your attention if you are falling asleep or distracted.

Lane Keeping Assist System

Honda’s lane keep assist picks up the lane markings on the road while you’re driving. It can keep you centered in your lane by making minor adjustments to the steering wheel. Lane keep assist also works together with traffic jam assist to prevent fatigue in traffic. You can release the steering wheel, and the system will take control of steering, braking, and acceleration.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive cruise control is pretty useful when cruising on the highway. When you turn on the cruise control button on your steering, you will get a prompt on the instrument panel to set your desired speed. When the sensors detect a vehicle in front of you, cruise control will maintain that set speed.

Blind Spot Information System

Blind spot information system helps prevent collisions when changing lanes on the highway. If the system detects an approaching vehicle in the next lane, you will get a warning on the dash. If you activate your turn signal, you will get an audible alert warning you not to switch lanes yet.

Cross-Traffic Monitor

When you are backing up, the cross-traffic monitor uses rear sensors to detect vehicles from either side. You will get an alert warning you to avoid a collision. The system will also display a video of the approaching vehicle, so you know when the path is clear.

Automatic High Beams

Automatic high beams save you from manually switching between high and low beams when driving at night. When the system detects oncoming traffic, it automatically turns off the high beams to avoid blinding other drivers. It then switches back to high beams once the vehicle has passed to improve visibility.
